Sport say Joao Cancelo has ‘always been clear’ that Barcelona is the club which would suit him best.
Of course, they would say that, being a Catalan newspaper, but there has been interest in the past.
Barcelona were repeatedly linked to Cancelo when he was playing for Valencia. At one stage a deal appeared close, however, the clubs weren’t able to finalise an agreement.
They didn’t make an attempt when the fullback swapped Juventus for Manchester City, yet it’s stated he ‘hasn’t adapted to life in England’ or football in the Premier League.
As far as Sport are concerned, Cancelo is ‘crazy’ to sign for Barcelona, and it’s a wish he hasn’t let go of since signing for Pep Guardiola’s side.
There’s possible business to be done between Nelson Semedo and Cancelo, according to the report, yet a straight swap is ruled out. That’s because Sport believe Semedo is worth more, given he’s a starter at Barcelona, whereas Manchester City ‘have a problem’ with Cancelo.
As it stands, it seems like Barca are content to keep Semedo, but if he refuses to renew then a possible exchange, with extra cash going the way of the La Liga side, would be more seriously considered.
