Manchester City conceded 27 (2017/18 season) and 23 (2018/19 season) goals during their title successes in the last two campaigns.
Things have been different for City this term as they have conceded 31 goals in 28 matches.
The English champions lost Vincent Kompany to Anderlecht last summer, while an injury forced Aymeric Laporte to be out of action for more than four months this season.
Calciomercato claims City will invest in a ‘high level’ centre-back in the summer and Pep Guardiola would like it to be Leonardo Bonucci. The ex-Barcelona boss has ‘always valued’ the defender and has an ‘obsession’ for the Juventus star.
However, it’ll be difficult for City to take the 32-year-old away from the Old Lady because ‘unstoppable’ Bonucci ‘will be untouchable’ in the next transfer window.
Maurizio Sarri views Bonucci as a perfect fit in Juventus’ defence. In addition to this, Juve have no plan to raise funds from the player’s transfer, and therefore they have ruled out his sale. This has already been ‘transferred’ to City on numerous occasions.
The Serie A winners’ firm stance on Bonucci will force Guardiola and City to look elsewhere for a new central defender.
