It won’t be a surprise if Manchester City have their focus on signing a striker next summer, if not sooner, after failing to bring in a new No.9 in the last window.
The Citizens allowed Sergio Agüero to leave the Etihad as a free agent at the end of last season and failed to replace him in the summer.
City are already linked to a handful of strikers and Erling Haaland is included in that list. Last month, SportBild reported the English champions are ‘getting hotter’ to sign the Borussia Dortmund star.
The Norway international is on the front page of today’s AS, along with Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. Within the report, it’s explained the Paris Saint-Germain forward is set to become the new star of Los Blancos’ next project.
With the Brazilian already at the Bernabéu and Mbappé thought to be on his way to Madrid, the ‘most difficult’ for Real Madrid will be to sign Haaland. There are various reasons and the first one is his contract with BVB that expires in 2024.
The competition from the Premier League, and Mino Raiola acting as the striker’s advisor are the other two reasons. The super-agent’s relationship with Florentino Pérez is ‘not exactly ideal’.
Manchester City are named as one of the suitors from England. It’s claimed Pep Guardiola’s side ‘will always be willing to pay more’ to the frontman, but his family are in favour of the player moving to Real Madrid.
Haaland’s father brought a house in Marbella in 2020. The BVB man and his family ‘love Marbella’ and ‘want to live in Spain’.
This could see the 21-year-old favour Real Madrid over City and other English clubs interested in him.
