Real Madrid are reportedly not very hopeful that they can land Antoine Griezmann from local rivals Atletico this summer.
Although the Frenchman is said to be a long time target for the Galacticos, the club would be giving up on the signing because they believe he will be joining Manchester United soon, according to Diario Madridista.
The word at the Bernabeu would be that Jose Mourinho has already personally spoken to the player, and is very close to convincing him to join the Red Devils.
These claims are followed by quotes from Griezmann’s long time advisor Eric Olhats, who recently said that, despite the many interested sides, Manchester United would be the only one who have made a concrete move so far.
Olhats has said several things over the past few months and not all of them have completely matched. Rather than being Griezmann’s agent, he’s more of a long term friend and associate, after ‘discovering’ the footballer as a youngster. It’s unlikely he’d have a big impact on a transfer.
Speaking of the player’s personal choice, Griezmann would be doubtful about an exit, but a night like Tuesday’s is what makes him consider the offer. With Atletico’s 3-0 defeat, he’s now once again far from putting his hands on the Champions League trophy.
Manchester United would have to qualify for the competition first, to have any chance of picking it up.
Everything has been said on Griezmann to Manchester United, much of it simply educated speculation with a hope to be ‘first’, much like what happened with Paul Pogba. The veracity of these claims is in the eye of the beholder.
