The Spanish media today brings interesting news about the future of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Diego Costa.

AS claim that despite the centre-forward’s mediocre numbers at Molineux, he actually has his future ‘assured’ at the club.

The reason for that is the desire of Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, who wants the English side to renew Costa’s contract for another season.

When joining the club as a free agent last summer, the 34-year-old had agreed to a one-year deal only, and could now have the chance for an extension.

AS writes that Lopetegui is ‘one of Diego Costa’s main supporters’. His admiration for the player doesn’t come for his goals, but for ‘everything he brings to the team’, as his ‘grit and fight on the field’, as well as ‘experience’ in the locker room.

That’s why Costa has been starting in all Premier League games that Wolves have been playing lately, despite only having one goal since his arrival at the club.

The report claims Lopetegui ‘hopes’ Wolves will renew his deal, but it’s not yet clear whether there are advanced talks on that front.

Costa, who’d been without a club before this move, would certainly like that opportunity.
