Everton star James Rodriguez has revealed he does not want his son to follow him into the game in future.
Rodriguez is something of a global star at this point in his career, having played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe during his time in the game.
Chief among them are Real Madrid, where he played for five years after joining in a £67.5m move from Monaco in 2014 following his star performances for Colombia at the World Cup that year.
Since then he’s also enjoyed a successful loan spell with German giants Bayern Munich before swapping Spain for the Premier League with Everton last summer.
His time in the game has seen him enjoy high points and low points, with successes such as league titles in Spain and Germany and winning the Champions League tapered by fallow periods, such as last year at Real Madrid.
It means he’s experienced it all and, when asked if he wants a similar career for his son, the Everton star did not hold back.
“Look, I wouldn’t like it very much,” he said in a video promoted by the Colombian FA.
“It’s a very tough profession, sometimes it’s unfair. But I’m not going to force him to do what I want him to do.
“If he likes something, and if he is passionate about something, let him do it with all the love in the world and let him be happy.”
