Valencia appear to be raising the white flag over their attempts to resign Aston Villa midfielder Enzo Barrenechea, with Monchi’s recent comments seen as a negative for them.
That’s according to Superdeporte, who report that the Spanish side face plenty of problems this summer and getting Barrenechea back from Aston Villa is one of them.
Strengthening the midfield is a priority for the club as they’ve lost two loan players who were key men for Carlos Corberán last season. Barrenechea is one of them, after joining from Aston Villa in the summer.
He was ‘cherished’ at the club, but his performances have not gone unnoticed elsewhere. Indeed, Monchi was recently discussing how he has suitors across Europe this summer.
Those words were like a dagger to the heart for Valencia, who believe they do not help their hopes of keeping the 24-year-old. Aston Villa would prefer to sell to one of these suitors than loan him back to them.
That would certainly make sense given funds are believed to be tight at Villa Park following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Valencia certainly appear to be raising the white flag and looking for other options, believing that Barrenechea will be heading elsewhere this summer.
