Even though Sporting are clearly the underdogs for the Europa League clash against Arsenal, there’s a reason – at least for the Portuguese media – for them to celebrate already.
As reported by newspaper Record today, the Lions have sold all the 5355 tickets they requested for the game at the Emirates Stadium, which will be played on the 8th of November.
That’s much more than the number of Gunners travelling to Llisbon, as Arsenal have asked for only 3500 seats at the Estádio José de Alvalade.
That’s why Record writes that the first game may not have been played yet, but Sporting already have a ‘moral victory’ against Arsenal before entering the pitch.
Yes, it’s an odd take.
This week, the very same newspaper already had a story claiming that Sporting would trust Nani’s record against the Gunners from his time at Manchester United. He has seven wins, one draw and one defeat against the London side.
These are obviously just some arguments while Sporting try to convince themselves they can fight Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. They know their chances are little, and need to find strength in any possible topic.
