It’s no secret that, following the acquisition of Jorginho, Maurizio Sarri wanted to be reunited with another one of his former pupils at Chelsea: Daniele Rugani.

The pair worked together at Empoli prior to the manager’s time at Napoli, where the 59-year-old also wanted the young defender, but Juventus got in his way.

Over the summer, there were multiple claims that Chelsea had made offers for the 23-year-old, but the Serie A champions sent them back to sender, unwilling to let another talent go after the sale of Mattia Caldara to Milan.

A done deal was claimed more than once, but the player eventually stayed in Turin.

It seemed that Juventus were aware the likes of Giogrio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci have limited time left at their best, and keeping Rugani around for foreseeable future would be best.

However, according to Rai Sport on Wednesday, relayed by Calciomercato, Max Allegri doesn’t rate the young defender any longer, meaning he could be free to go next summer.

In fact, Juventus are said to ‘seriously evaluating’ a sale, which comes a week or so after claims emerged that Rugani, having seen the Chelsea bids rejected, wanted a new contract as compensation for missing out on the move.

Are the two linked? Definitely. Maybe.

So far this season, Rugani has played 91 minutes of professional football.
