Liverpool signed Billy Koumetio for their academy from Orleans FC in 2018 and he has featured for the Reds in the U18 Premier League and also the UEFA Youth League this season.
Jürgen Klopp has allowed the 18-year-old to train with the first team on a handful of occasions this season.
The centre-back was also included in the match day squad in the Merseyside club’s thrilling victory over Arsenal in the EFL Cup last October. However, he was an unused substitute.
Foot Mercato has an update on the teenager’s immediate future and they state ‘everything indicates’ people should ‘soon hear about’ the young defender.
The Lyon-born youngster is a fan of Virgil van Dijk. According to the report, those in charge at Anfield are aware of Koumetio’s ‘enormous potential’ and his leadership qualities.
Therefore, the newly crowned English champions ‘decided to offer’ the teenager his first professional contract. Foot Mercato state the contract could be announced ‘within a few days’.
Koumetio’s progress was hindered when he suffered a groin injury in November 2019 and after spending three months on the sidelines, he has now regained full fitness.
