Ever since it was made public that Keita Baldé would not be renewing his contract with Lazio and would likely be sold in the upcoming transfer window, Manchester United were touted as his likely destination in England.

However, if Il Messaggero on Thursday are to be believed, that has now changed to Liverpool, who have taken an active interest in the Senegal international recently.

They state Lazio would be ready to let Baldé, who has just one year left on his deal, go for somewhere around €20-25m, which, considering he has scored 16 goals in 34 appearances, as well as helping out with six assists, could be seen as a bargain.

The Italian newspaper claim that Lazio’s director of football, Igli Tare, has been in contact with Liverpool about the winger over the past few days, having already negotiated with them in the past for Luis Alberto.

With the club looking for backup up front, wanting to avoid a repeat situation to this season when they lost Sadio Mané, Liverpool have also been linked with Grêmio’s Luan and Bordeaux’s Malcom for the role.

Therefore, seeing Jurgen Klopp also testing the waters for a talented 22-year-old like Keita Baldé who can play in a similar position isn’t a surprise.
