Once again the Spanish press are linking Liverpool with Theo Hernandez. The 19 year old has spent this season on loan at Alaves from Atletico Madrid, where he has a contract until June 2021.
Despite the length of Theo’s contract, Atletico stand a good chance of losing him this summer, because his buyout clause is just €24m. That represents very good value in the current market, and it’s no surprise Liverpool are interested.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo report that several clubs have submitted their own ‘great offer’ to sign Theo, with those offers already ‘on the table’. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are said to be prepared to pay a ‘very high amount’ in wages to tempt Theo, and it’s salary offers which are being made.
With Theo having such an accessible clause, clubs are contacting him, wanting to learn the player’s choice before making moves to match the clause.
Theo is set to meet with his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon in the ‘coming hours’ to decide a way forward on his future. It’s worth noting that, in our experience, a Spanish newspaper saying ‘coming hours’ can mean anything from days to weeks.
Liverpool are presented as having a genuine chance, because Theo wants to consider all approaches carefully, and the economic offer is important to the player. There’s no worry from Theo about not breaking through into a team, so guaranteed playing time isn’t a concern.
Mundo Deportivo say that, along with Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich are all keen.
Theo Hernandez is primarily a left back, but he can also play further forward on the left wing, and in central defence. It’s no surprise Jurgen Klopp and others are so interested.
