France Football touch upon the future of Celtic star Moussa Dembele this week. The 20 year old almost moved to Tottenham Hotspur from Fulham before he made his way to Celtic Park, but that deal collapsing made it possible for the Scottish Premiership club to swoop in.
Brendan Rodgers has done a great job with Dembele and it’s likely to be a matter of if, and not when, Dembele leaves Celtic. That ‘when’ was not to be the winter transfer window, with France Football reporting West Ham had a £25m offer refused during the January window. Slaven Bilic was keen to add during the winter, and it would have been a great boost to replace Dimitri Payet with Dembele.
West Ham seem to have now dropped out of the running, and France Football focus on Juventus this week. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham are one of the other clubs named, and a move could make a great deal of sense for Dembele and Spurs.
Pochettino would get himself both a potential partner and back-up for Harry Kane, something which he hasn’t found from Vincent Janssen just yet. Tottenham’s interest in the player was clear before he moved to Celtic and considering Dembele has improved, that interest probably hasn’t disappeared.
The only question is cost, and whether Tottenham would be prepared to pay such a high fee, having lost out before. Celtic rejecting West Ham’s £25m shows they’re not going to do this cheaply.
