Even thoug the Portuguese press often pushes too hard to link some players to the Premier League, this time they’ve done the opposite.
Liverpool FC have been linked to Gelson Martins several times in the past couple of years, but maybe this rumour is being finally rubbished this Wednesday.
That’s because according to what A Bola writes today, the Reds are no longer interested in the Sporting winger. Or maybe they never were.
The newspaper’s source is a Liverpool scout. He’s the one who had been present at Alvalade to watch Gelson, and that’s where the news about the chase started in first place.
But now this same official has told a A Bola that there’s no formal interest from Liverpool to go for the player. What he’s been doing in Portugal is just the general analysis of the Portuguese clubs.
It means that this rumour should put to bed now, although we don’t know how long for. Other local papers will certainly give the Reds a mention when the summer market comes, as Sporting still hope they can make up to €60m with this sale.
