Liverpool are in pole position to sign Schalke youngster Malick Thiaw this summer with several clubs all eyeing up the 18-year-old.
That’s according to Arena Napoli, who state that the player’s entourage are in contact with several clubs including Milan, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
They say ‘Liverpool are in pole’, though, and ‘could be an attractive destination’ for the defender, who only made his debut for the German side at the beginning of this month.
The impression from the club is that the player will ‘go elsewhere’ this summer and choose the best bidder in terms of salary and ‘technical project’, which would be Jürgen Klopp’s side.
The website reports that he would be available for €7.5m as he has a termination clause in his current deal, which expires in 2021.
That, though, may not be the case. This is not the first time Liverpool have been linked to the youngster, with the Mirror in England linking them earlier this month.
They brought up the €7.5m clause but, according to BILD, that does not exist, and there is no chance he will move for that price.
In fact, Schalke are working hard to sign him up to a new deal and talks had taken place before the outbreak of Coronavirus.
They are now on hold until things settle down, although, it was stated that staying at Schalke was his number one choice at this moment in time.
That would suggest Liverpool face a fight to convince the youngster to make the move and will have to pay more than that €7.5m if they do.
