Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named as a target for Barcelona in the summer.
On Wednesday, Sport explained the 29-year-old has ‘given signals’ to the Catalan club over a move in the next window.
The La Liga side are keen on Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, but the cost involved in the operation has forced them to look at other options.
Salah’s contract expires in 2023 and he’s not managed to agree terms with the Merseyside club over a new deal. The Egypt international and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski [also expiring in 2023] have therefore been identified as alternatives to Haaland.
That’s according to today’s edition of Sport, who add the contract situations of Salah and the Pole makes both their clubs ‘doubt’ over their continuity. Without a renewal, the summer window will be last big opportunity for Liverpool and Bayern to cash in from their sales.
“I like Salah for his versatility, because at Liverpool he has scored a minimum of 23 goals and a maximum of 44 per season, because he has a large percentage of Barca DNA and because he is a good alternative to Haaland and also to Dembélé,” says Joan Maria Batlle
“Salah is a two in one, a winger with a lot of goals who can play whatever he wants in attack because he has plenty of quality. And if he can do three or four years of Haaland and Dembelé, it would be cheap.”
Barca DNA? Liverpool have been here before with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, and will know the transfer games ahead of them should the Catalan media decide that Salah is the man for Barcelona.
