The stance on Lucas Torreira and how much Fiorentina will be willing to pay Arsenal to sign him permanently in the summer changes repeatedly in the Italian media.

For months it was reported La Viola would look for a discount on the €15m buying option they have with the Premier League side. However, we covered claims from La Nazione, a newspaper local to the Tuscany side, earlier this week which pretty much made it clear Fiorentina will pay the €15m should they need to.

Now Gazzetta dello Sport bring an article talking about various Serie A club’s looking for discounts on clauses they have to sign players in the next market.

Torreira is one of those, and it’s stated Fiorentina are ‘confident in Arsenal’s generosity’, meaning they feel there’s a good chance they can get the €15m figure down.

Despite that, it’s also made clear Mikel Arteta’s side won’t be backed into a corner and bullied, and it’s explained the Italian club ‘would not want to give him up for any reason in the world’.

Therefore, the confidence may be misplaced. Torreira has done so well back in Serie A that there’d almost certainly be other suitors should the money not be paid.

On top of that, Fiorentina will surely be aware of the backlash they’d receive from fans if they lost the midfielder due to haggling over, say, a couple of million.

Arsenal look to have the strength here.
