The links between Liverpool and Luan have been reported reported for a long time now. This month, we’ve already talked to a club director who told us that no bids for the attacker had arrived.
But the speculation continues, and it seems it’s starting to bother the English club.
UOL has contacted Liverpool’s South American scouting chief Fernando Troinani, who said the claim of a bid was fabricated by the press, although he admitted the Reds have been keeping an eye on Luan for a while.
“It’s widely known that the press (both in Brazil and in Spain) is reporting, without any basis, that Liverpool are interested, and even that we made a bid. We don’t know where this story came from. But I can assure you that it’s not true.
“We know that the board of the Porto Alegre club has nothing to do with it, and we estimate that the athlete’s agent doesn’t as well. But we think it’s very unprofessional to spread inaccurate rumours.
“We know Luan since before his success at Grêmio, we have followed him and we believe that he doesn’t need anyone making false stories for him to keep being valued in the market. No doubt he can be sold without this kind of ‘help’.”
The Grêmio president has recently said that Luan’s price has increased since his good performances at the Olympics, but with the European transfer window closing today, it doesn’t look like this will be the window he moves to the ‘old continent’.
