Of all the clubs to suffer during this international break, Liverpool have probably had it the worst.
The Reds have been cursed so far, and it appears that it spreads to players currently not even part of their squad.
Midfielder Marko Grujic is currently on loan at Porto from Anfield, having been shipped out in the summer again when Jürgen Klopp made it clear he wasn’t part of his plans.
Things are going relatively well in Portugal, and that’s seen him called up to the Serbian national side during this international break.
Now that group have been dropping like flies thanks to Covid-19 cases, with one absentee, Sergej Milinković Savić, meaning that Grujic was about to be given his chance to impress.
Except, he won’t be. Blic report that the Liverpool midfielder was supposed to start their next game as Milinković Savić’s replacement but a ‘great misfortune’ has ended that.
The newspaper explains that Grujic was ‘hit hard in the head’ by a ball in training and the ‘first forecasts’ of that suggest he has suffered a concussion.
That has ruled him out of this evening’s Nations League clash with Russia, a bitter blow for the player, who has seen his chance to stake a claim for a regular place with his country go up in smoke.
He’ll be hoping for a swift recovery so he can get back to playing, with Liverpool sure to be hoping he’s the last player associated with them to come down with something before this break is over.
