Christian Eriksen has not been a regular for Manchester United this season.

The midfielder has played only 18 times in the Premier League and even if he has been more of a regular in the Europa League, he was on the bench against Lyon last Thursday.

With the Dane’s current contract at Old Trafford expiring in the summer and no renewal in sight, Eriksen’s future is uncertain.

Former Denmark international Brian Laudrup has now tipped the midfielder to return to Ajax.

In chat with ViaPlay, as relayed by TipsBladet, Laudrup said: Christian seems like someone who needs a certain kind of security and to have his family close by. I can’t see him going somewhere exotic, but I can see him going to Ajax, which has also been mentioned several times.”

Laudrup also stated that the ex-Tottenham hero can still make a difference in the Eredivisie:

“It’s a place where he built his name, and he will still be able to make a difference in the Dutch league, where he will get the ball more and there is more space. I could see that, but the question is of course also what his ambitions are. But Ajax is a really good offer.”

Eriksen has now been at three clubs in England and has also played in Italy and in the Netherlands in a career that has spanned over 15 years.

At 33, it might be time for him to play where he could enjoy the last few years of his career and potentially remind people of his abilities before hanging up his boots.

In that sense, his Manchester United contract not being renewed presents opportunity.
