Graeme Souness isn’t shy why it comes to sharing his feelings on players, and Andre Gomes was the target for the Liverpool legend last week.
Working as a pundit following Everton’s 6-2 loss to Tottenham, Souness wasn’t feeling much Christmas spirit and slammed the Portuguese midfielder for his performance.
Catalan newspaper Sport have been somewhat taken aback by the rant, and made sure to point out Souness is a former Liverpool player, and a very successful Anfield legend as well.
Sport and others in the Spanish media have been celebrating Gomes’ achievements since his loan move to Everton. The Goodison Park club’s fans have really taken to the Barcelona owned player and there’s already been talk of a permanent deal in the next summer transfer window.
Souness felt Gomes was something of a passenger as his side was overrun by Tottenham.
It certainly wasn’t one of the player’s best performances since making the move to English football, but he wasn’t the worst player for Everton, which is maybe why the ‘attack’ is catching Spanish attention.
For the Toffees it may not be such a bad thing. The Catalan media had been getting carried with Gomes’ experience in the Premier League and that could have helped push the price up.
