Monday saw the confirmation from Liverpool that Dejan Lovren has left the club and will be moving to Russia to sign for Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Lovren had a mixed time during his Anfield career, with some supporters often frustrated with his mistakes. That said, he certainly contributed and will need to be replaced in Jurgen Klopp’s squad for next season.
Also on Monday, claims came from Germany of Liverpool interest in Schalke central defender Ozan Kabak. It was first Bild who pushed claims about the Reds being keen, and then Kicker said they’d been able to back that up… making the whole thing seem more concrete than many rumours.
Carrying the story on, Tuesday sees Bild report Schalke ‘must sell a star’, and Kabak is the latest candidate, given the claimed Klopp interest.
Liverpool would have to pay around €35m, and if the Bundesliga club could get such a figure it would enable them to keep their other stars, and also provide some funds for incoming moves in the summer transfer market.
Bild point out that Lovren’s exit means there’s a place ready in Liverpool’s squad for Kabak.
