Simon Mignolet’s demotion at Liverpool has obviously been big news in Belgium, and it’s safe to say that some there feel there’s been unfairness. Mignolet has had an up and down Liverpool career but has been in decent form this season, and has made it clear he’s in no mood to accept being a second choice goalkeeper.
Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that Loris Karius is his first choice for the position, and made it sound like a long term decision, rather than letting the pair fight it out.
Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg have a look at the situation on Monday, and it’s clear they feel Mignolet isn’t being given a fair chance.
NBVL say that Karius was shaky against Crystal Palace, with them feeling it’s not a new thing, they say his performance caused ‘outrage’ on social media.
An unnamed fan is quoted as asking “Will we ever see Karius make a save for Liverpool?”
The newspaper believe it may be a matter of time before Mignolet is recalled, asking how long Klopp can resist the pressure to bench Karius.
Of course, they may be a little biased, but judging by Karius’ performances so far, and Mignolet this season, it does appear Klopp is showing a lot of faith in the German.
