Already a fully fledged Spain international, Mikel Oyarzabal is still just 22, which is why he was able to feature for Spain’s U21 squad who went on to win the 2019 U21 European Championships.

The winger, who acted as a centre-forward towards the end of the competition, played a key role in his country’s victorious campaign, scoring in both the final group game and the semi-finals, as well as picking up an assist in the final against Germany.

Currently at Real Sociedad, the winger is expected to go onto bigger and greater things in the near future, potentially ending up somewhere like Chelsea or Liverpool.

At least, that’s what Alberto Lopez, who spent 13 years at the Spanish club between 1993 and 2006, thinks, speaking to Marca about his former club.

During the interview, the 50-year-old was asked about his beloved club’s star, and he said: “I really rate him. I don’t think he has a lot of time left at Real Sociedad. He has so much talent and I think he could play in a great team like Chelsea and Liverpool”.

While a move to Stamford Bridge might have to wait an extra year or so due to their current transfer ban, Liverpool might just be the perfect place for Oyarzabal.

As the Reds need some backup to their deadly trio of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, the 22-year-old, who is capable of playing across the front three, could be a viable option for Jürgen Klopp.

However, this is just us humouring Lopez’s thought and we’re not saying Liverpool are interested, but the fact the forward is relatively ‘affordable’ with a €75m release clause in his contract might bring create some rumours over the next 12 months or so.

Especially if he improves on his 14 goals in 41 appearances from last season.
