Struggling when he first arrived in the Premier League, Nampalys Mendy’s second attempt with Leicester City, after a loan break back in France, was a bit better.

The 27-year-old started most games under Claude Puel at King Power Stadium until the Frenchman was sacked, and while Brendan Rodgers’ arrival limited his starts, the defensive midfielder was still relied upon towards the end of games to shore things up.

However, the new manager’s use of Wilfred Ndidi in front of the defence and the arrival (originally on loan and now permanent) of Youri Tielemans has impacted his game time overall, and perhaps another move could interest him if it guarantees him more time on the pitch.

En Vert et Contre Tous in France, a Saint-Etienne fan website, claim that, according to their information, the former France U21 international is one of the players being considered by the Ligue 1 side to bolster their midfield.

Expected to earn around €30m from the William Saliba deal, the French club will have a little bit of cash to spare, and while Valentin Rongier seems to be the favoured man for the role, Mendy is also on the list.

There’s no indication it will go any further than that for now, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it going forward in this transfer window.
