There are many things Daniel Levy has gotten right as Tottenham chairman, while others, like appointing José Mourinho as manager, can be regretted.
Either way, he is a man known to be a tough negotiator, often getting his way, with the Gareth Bale a prime example of that, but sometimes, his desire to get the right deal can be costly.
Thankfully, that hasn’t happened in the Cristian Romero purchase, but, according to Corriere di Bergamo, he came very close to pulling the plug on the whole operation.
The newspaper have a bit of information regarding Daniel Levy’s thoughts on the matter, claiming ‘there was a hitch between Monday and yesterday’ as the Tottenham chairman was ‘uncertain about the amount of the operation’.
After all €50m + €5m is quite a lot of money, especially when you take into account that Spurs’ top purchases are Tanguy Ndombélé at £54m followed by Davinson Sánchez (£37.8m) and Moussa Sissoko (£31.5m).
Either way, you can rest assured Levy still gave the green light, as Corriere di Bergamo explain Romero remains ‘one step away’ from a Tottenham move, and all is expected to go through, with Atalanta bringing in Merih Demiral to replace him.
