Towards the end of last week, Nampalys Mendy gave a rather revealing interview to L’Equipe where he expressed his utmost desire to move to Bordeaux in Ligue 1 after a very disappointing season with Leicester.
The defensive midfielder only made four appearances for the Foxes last season, and is determined, along with his agent, to get himself a move that would allow him to play first-team football regularly and return within touching distance of a spot in the France team.
While that might remain a bit of a dream, considering the strength his national team already have in that department, getting his career back on track is certainly a must, but Leicester are being a bit difficult about it all.
Not exactly flush with cash, Bordeaux will have been looking at a loan, but Sud-Ouest in France claim Leicester want clubs to buy Mendy off them rather than temporarily get rid of him.
Having bought him for around €16m last year, the Foxes will want most of that back, which Bordeaux can’t really afford, making things a bit awkward.
We’ll have to wait and see for this one, as recent stories have emerged stating the Ligue 1 side are also looking at former Manchester City defensive midfielder Javi Garcia as a potential alternative, while Nantes also seem rather keen on Mendy.
