The future of Blaise Matuidi is of great interest to the French press, mostly because whatever is decided is likely linked to Paris Saint-Germain’s desire to bring Fabinho in from Monaco.
France Football look at the situation on Thursday, and, of course, no story about the versatile Brazilian from the continent can be written without an update on Manchester United’s interest.
The French magazine don’t disappoint in that department, and while explaining that until Fabinho is signed, Matuidi isn’t leaving, they make it clear that José Mourinho is still interested.
However, disappointingly for the Old Trafford faithful, who are very keen on their club going after the Monaco star, France Football reveal that very little progress has been made in their pursuit for his services.
Whether that is because they are currently focused on signing a new striker (Romelu Lukaku or Alvaro Morata?) remains to be seen, but there’s only so many places Ed Woodward can be at once.
While a new midfielder is needed, replacing Zlatan Ibrahimovic is critical if Manchester United are to improve on last season, and we wouldn’t be surprised if that was the priority right now, with other deals being put on hold for now.
