Just over a week ago we covered reports from Belgium of Leicester City’s interest in Wilfred Ndidi. Het Belang van Limburg had led with the claims and things built from there.
Then there was talk of a ‘monster’ bid from Leicester City for the midfielder. Claudio Ranieri’s club were said to have proposed an €18m upfront payment plus bonuses which would take that to €21m.
Genk were said to want more, thinking a flat fee of between €20m and €25m would be more appropriate. The Belgian club had priced both their stars, Ndidi and Leon Bailey, at that amount.
Well, things have quickly changed. Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad report that Leicester have reached an agreement with Genk, and will pay €17.7m in a deal that could rise to €22m. It’s pretty much the same as the original offer.
It’s a huge windfall for Genk, who would be heading for more should they also sell Bailey during the winter window. Ndidi needs a work permit arranging, but Leicester will be confident of being able to sort the paperwork out and gain enough points through the new system.
Leicester get the player they wanted, Genk get their money and Ndidi gets a huge move, everyone wins.
