It’s unusual these days for a well known footballer in Germany to go into renewal talks without their being claimed interest from the Premier League. That’s especially so if the footballer happens to play for Borussia Dortmund.
The latest supposed target is Julian Weigl, and it’s Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who are stated as keen to sign the player. As well as Guardiola, Weigl is said to have also caught the interest of Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan.
Guardiola has apparently spotted a chance to ‘lure’ Weigl to Manchester City. German newspaper Bild point out that Weigl is currently paid €1.5m per year by Dortmund, and could earn ‘fourfold’ that in England.
As if by magic, Bild then point out that Dortmund are looking to extend the player’s contract and increase his salary. Should Dortmund stall on offering improved terms then we’ll surely see Weigl reports grow in Germany, probably involving Manchester City.
