Last summer Leeds United were linked with a move for ADO Den Haag defender Tom Beugelsdijk after Garry Monk sent scouts to watch the player.
Beugelsdijk has recently talked up a move away from the Dutch side, but following their victory at the weekend there’s a good chance he will now remain in the Netherlands.
ADO Den Haag have been hovering around the relegation places in recent months, and before Alfons Groenendijk was installed as their new coach it seemed like they would be heading for the drop.
Under Groenendijk ADO Den Haag have pulled themselves away from the relegation zone, and their victory over Sparta on Sunday secured top flight football for next season.
This could have implications on the future of Beugelsdijk after the Leeds United target recently said he wasn’t prepared to play in the Dutch second division, and subsequently would have to assess his future in the summer.
Now the club are safe the player doesn’t need to worry about this scenario, but there could be other factors involved. The central defender still needs to sort out his contract situation with ADO Den Haag, which will have bearing on his decision at the end of the season.
During the last window we covered reports from the Dutch media that Leeds United sent scouts to Holland to watch ADO Den Haag take on Excelsior. At the time it was reported Leeds United boss Garry Monk was impressed with Beugelsdijk, believing his physicality would make him suitable for English football.
The player also recently talked up a move to England, saying it’s an option he’d consider. With Pontus Jansson again being linked with Southampton, albeit weakly, Beugelsdijk could be a backup option for Monk.
