Earlier this summer, Matías Almeyda was touting himself as an option to take over the Mexican national team and was seen as a good bet by many.
Almeyda has been keen and part of the process involved speaking to the country’s media and getting his name out there: “I think there are many coaches who could train the Mexico national team, I also consider myself capable of being like those many, but hey, it doesn’t depend on myself.”
On why he was out of work, Almeryda explained: “With one I didn’t reach an agreement, which was Leeds United of England, which ended up going to Marcelo Bielsa, and the other was that of Qatar.”
Marcelo Bielsa takes charge of his first competitive match at Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, and tangling the Mexico situation up further he’s being pushed for the job.
The country’s national sport newspaper Record has some words from Pachuca’s president. Pachuca are one of the biggest clubs in the country and Andrés Fassi pontificates on many things.
For the national team, he believes Bielsa should be appointed as he could push the country’s development “10 to 15 years” ahead.
If he hadn’t taken the Leeds United job, managing Mexico would have looked rather attractive for El Loco.
