Dinamo Zagreb youngster Joško Gvardiol could join Leeds ‘very soon’ after Marcelo Bielsa’s side submitted a €20m offer for the defender.

The newly-promoted side were first linked with Gvardiol at the end of August, with reports in England claiming they were keen on his signature.

This was quickly picked up in Croatia, with Sportske Novosti first confirming that Leeds were ‘very interested’ in him before 24 Sata reported that a €20m bid had been lodged after Bielsa was impressed by his performance in a recent clash with Cluj.

Sportske now provide the latest update on the situation, saying Leeds are facing competition from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for the youngster.

They state that both sides have made offers of €20m, although Leipzig’s is basically €17m with various bonuses and the possibility of Gvardiol remaining at Dinamo next season to continue his development there.

That would suit the player, and he would like to stay in Croatia, but the market can’t be ‘tamed’, so it is hard for Dinamo to say no to Leeds offer either.

Indeed, it’s hinted that their offer is superior and so at this moment in time they have a ‘kind of advantage’ over their German rivals.

Him potentially staying with his current club ‘tickles many’, though, meaning Leipzig cannot be ruled out in the bidding.

Currently, those two are the only ones to have made a bid, and if there is no third offer, Gvardiol will ‘very soon become a player of one of those two clubs’. In fact, a deal could happen after their clash with Ferencvaros in the Champions League on September 16th.

That would suggest this rumour has a little time left to run on it, giving Leeds and Bielsa plenty of opportunity08 to convince him Elland Road would be a better choice for his next club.
