Leeds United forward Marcus Antonsson believes it’s in the Championship where you’ll find proper football fans. The 26-year-old has just completed his first season at Leeds United after arriving from Kalmar last summer.

In an interview with Fotboll Direkt, Antonsson was asked about the competitiveness of the Championship and the differences with the Premier League.

The Leeds United player thinks many tourists attend games in the English top flight, which he doesn’t see in the Championship. Antonsson also said the games in the second tier are difficult and that it’s sometimes hard to predict who will come out on top.

“In the Premier League, there are tourists. Here the ground is full of real supporters of their teams and it’s an incredible atmosphere. It is also tight, there are no easy games, you can say that ‘we’ll win’. All the matches are tough,” said Antonsson.

Leeds United are set for another season in the Championship after they faltered at the end of last campaign. Garry Monk’s side looked well positioned going into the final weeks of the season, but some poor results resulted in them losing out on a play-off spot.

However, despite playing in the second tier, Leeds United fans have remained faithful to the team, with Elland Road this season experiencing some of its best attendances in years.
