It’s not often we find a Leeds United story in Uruguay, but one has popped up in Ovacion, the sport section of El Pais, today.
Diego Polenta is a free agent, having seen his contract with Nacional expire. Ovacion explains he’s been much wanted this summer and they’ve got some heavy detail on the clubs who have been chasing him.
On May 4th, Club Atlas in Mexico sent a proposal, on June 1st they were followed by Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad. Then on June 4th came Leeds United.
The Championship club are said to have made an approach over a potential move and have ‘tried to bet heavily’ on the defender.
Despite of all that, the 26 year old still hasn’t decided what he wants to do. He’s free to choose who he wishes to play for and has kept his options open and offers on the table.
It’s not the first time Leeds have been linked with a Nacional player this summer, with Agustín Rogel’s agent claiming earlier this year he’d had a detailed proposal from the club which would have included a stay in the US before an EU passport was obtained.
