Following Leeds United’s exit of the Championship playoffs at the hands of Derby County and Marcelo Bielsa keeping everyone guessing about his future at the club’s helm, speculation about his next move is rife.
We’ve already had articles sending him to Celta Vigo, Italian newspapers calming down rumours about a move to Roma and now we’ve got Catalunya Radio explaining the Argentine could potentially end up at Girona.
According to the Catalan outlet, Bielsa has become the ‘priority’ for the Manchester City affiliate to replace Eusebio Sacristan, who announced he would not carry on beyond the current campaign despite having a year left on his contract.
Girona ‘want to take the club’s direction a step further’, and see Bielsa as the ideal man to do so.
Should the Argentine decide to leave Leeds United in the coming weeks, a return to Spain could certainly be attractive, having spent a chunk of his career at the helm of Athletic Bilbao and a very brief spell at Espanyol.
However, his ‘high wages’ and many suitors around Europe could end up being a problem for Girona.
Would he consider a move to Spain’s second division? That also remains to be seen.
