Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has not managed to be at his best this season and has kept only two clean sheets in the league since mid-October.
The Frenchman has a contract until 2024 and his recent mixed performances has seen Spurs reportedly start searching the market for his long-time successor.
On January 24th, La Repubblica explained Napoli stopper Alex Meret is desired by Tottenham, and, like Lloris, even he has a deal expiring in less than 18 months.
Federico Pastorello, the Italy international’s agent, admitted last month there has been an interest in the 25-year-old from the Premier League, but didn’t reveal which English clubs are looking at his client.
This information has now been detailed by Italian journalist Ciro Venerato during 1 Station Radio’s program, 1 Football Club. His quotes are relayed by Tutto Napoli.
“Meret’s future? There is no news. Meeting with the agent, Pastorello, at the end of the season, so we will understand if there will be a need to renew or go elsewhere,” Venerato said.
“Tottenham are interested in the boy, a club that has also contacted the boy’s entourage in this market.”
In other words, there would be no clarity on Meret’s future until the conclusion of this season.
If the goalkeeper were to leave, Venerato claims Napoli have already identified potential candidates to replace him.
“[Guglielmo] Vicario as Alex’s possible successor. The Caprile option, on the other hand, will depend on Gollini’s future redemption, and will cover the deputy goalkeeper of Meret or Vicario,” he added.
