Newcastle United ‘like’ AS Roma’s Pau López, according to Italian journalist Francesco Balzani.
Balzani discussed the Magpies interest in the former Tottenham Hotspur loanee in his column for Italian newspaper Leggo.
The goalkeeper joined the Giallorossi from Real Betis last summer and has been the first-choice keeper for Paulo Fonseca this season.
He has featured in 34 matches in all competitions, conceding 43 goals and keeping nine clean sheets in the process.
Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot are the three recognised keepers at St James’ Park and the latter two have contracts expiring this summer.
This would leave Steve Bruce’s side with the Slovakia international, meaning the Premier League side could be in the market for a new custodian in the upcoming window.
Roma are in a financial crisis and they could part ways with the 25 year old to raise funds.
For now, Balzani only mentioned Newcastle ‘like’ López and provided no additional information. Calciomercato have relayed the claims made in Leggo and they further explain a fee of €30m is needed to take the player away from Roma.
