Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has reportedly become a strong target for Benfica.
The youngster’s name has been mentioned by the Portuguese press for a while now, and A Bola add some developments in their Wednesday edition.
They say Benfica are preparing to lose Ederson to Manchester City, and now have Pereira as their number one target to replace him.
That’s why Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is in London, accompanied by agent Jorge Mendes, to negotiate the transfer with Manchester United.
As the Red Devils are constantly linked to Benfica stars, A Bola claims that some players could be included in the deal, although this information is not clear for them yet.
Mendes’ presence in the negotiations is curious. He’s not Pereira’s agent, and not Victor Lindelof’s either. From the Benfica players who have been strongly linked to United, he only represents Ederson and Nelson Semedo.
What could stop Benfica from signing Pereira is the player’s renewal at Old Trafford. The Portuguese side have prepared for this scenario by having Atletico Madrid goalkeeper André Moreira as a plan B.
As for the claim Luis Filipe Vieira is in London, it’s about time the Benfica president bought himself an apartment here. Every other week or so there are reports in Portugal about the Benfica boss travelling to England for transfer talks, usually with Manchester United.
