Everton being ‘very interested’ in Kevin Gameiro is a line pushed in Spain earlier this month, and one which is convenient for Atletico Madrid.
In a little snippet on their Tuesday back page, Marca drop the pleasantries and tell it how it is: Diego Simeone ‘doesn’t like’ the Frenchman.
Of course, Gameiro may be a really nice guy, who the Atletico manager adores, but in terms of football Marca insist Simeone isn’t a fan.
Gameiro is slipping further down the pecking order at the Madrid club, and that’s even before Diego Costa and Vitolo arrive in January. When that happens, Gameiro could be so far away from the team that he struggles to get on the bench.
Marca say Gameiro is therefore heading for the exit in December, they obviously mean the winter window but there’s clearly a rush on.
This all presents the striker on a plate to Everton. In the January window there’s not a great deal of options, and with Gameiro clearly very much one of them, barring a plague on Atletico attackers, he has to be a consideration for Everton.
That coupled with Ronald Koeman allegedly holding some interest, and the French attacker is on a plate for a move to Goodison Park.
Atletico paid €30m, they’ll hope for that back. Everton could probably get a loan deal which is automatically made permanent after XYZ number of appearances, with a fee somewhere around €20m and an extra €5-€10m should Gameiro reach certain scoring targets.
If, of course, Everton are as keen as has been presented.
