Ever since Napoli sacked Carlo Ancelotti at the beginning of December, the Italian media have taken every opportunity to take a dig.

The Italian is now the hero at Everton and well thought of but, sadly, that is not the case at his former club.

While he is idolised at Goodison Park, everything that is going wrong at Napoli, or is perceived as going wrong, is now Ancelotti’s fault.

This is particularly the case when it comes to transfers, with him having been blamed for several that haven’t worked out.

Hirving Lozano is at the top of that list. The Mexican was signed in a big-money move in the summer but has been a total flop, managing just three goals and two assists all year.

According to Radio Goal host Valter De Maggio, though, there was another option last summer.

“In August, in the early days, Napoli had the names of Hirving Lozano and Ciro Immobile on the plate. De Laurentiis, to satisfy his coach Carlo Ancelotti, had preferred to fall on the Mexican,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by Arena Napoli.

Immobile, of course, has scored 30 goals in 33 games this season, further adding to the anger aimed at Ancelotti.

This, though, seems to be just another opportunity to take a dig at the now Everton manager than anything genuine.

Lozano and Immobile are two very different players who play in two very different positions, so there is little to zero chance; it was a choice of one or the other.

Instead, this feels like a further attempt by the press in Italy to sully Ancelotti’s name, probably because things are now going so well at Goodison Park.
