After Tottenham moved to pinch William Saliba from under Arsenal’s nose this week, it seems the Gunners are keen to return the favour.
Gazzetta Dello Sport report Arsenal are making their move for Nicola Zaniolo, a player who has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs.
Zaniolo is one of the hottest young talents in Italy and one that plenty are expecting big things from moving forward.
He broke onto the scene last season making 27 appearances for Roma, scoring four goals and registering two assists in total and attracting attention around Europe.
Tottenham are particularly big fans and earlier this week we covered a report from Corriere Dello Sport that they were close to securing his signature.
The newspaper reported that Spurs had agreed to a deal for the highly rated 23-year-old that would see them pay €23m and include Toby Alderweireld in the move.
Roma accepted that Alderweireld was keen on the move and all that was left was convincing Zaniolo. The move was 75% done as far as everyone was concerned. The youngster was holding the move up, though, as he wants Juventus but they won’t pay for him.
Now it seems he’ll have a third choice as Arsenal have joined the hunt for his signature as far as Gazzetta are concerned.
They offer little more than that there is interest there, which means it remains unclear if Arsenal would be willing to pay his reported €40m asking price.
That seems unlikely given the limited funds at their disposal but if they are, it appears another transfer battle between the London rivals could be on the cards.
