Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has been offered to Barcelona via intermediaries. The club’s transfer chief Robert Fernandez is said to know Matic well from the player’s time at Benfica, but it was Jose Mourinho who then signed the player.
Barcelona are said to be appreciative of Matic’s combination of physical strength and technical ability and he’s one of a number of midfielders who the Spanish club keep an eye on.
However, it’s suggested that offering Matic to Barcelona may be a tactic for the player to get a renewal at Chelsea, and it’s also claimed Jose Mourinho wants him at Manchester United.
Matic, 28 years of age, has a Chelsea contract lasting until June 2019, at which time the player will be 30. Chelsea have in the past been reluctant to hand out extended contracts to players going past the milestone, and may need some encouragement.
As for Matic moving to Manchester United and teaming up with Mourinho again, that surely has to be considered unlikely.
