West Brom scouts couldn’t miss the biggest game in the Portuguese league this season.

Although the Baggies haven’t been heavily linked to players from Benfica or Porto lately, the scouting of these clubs has been frequent. They watched Porto games in November and March, and were present at a Benfica match in January.

The big rivals have faced each other on Saturday with a gap of only one point between them, and West Brom officials were there again, report O Joho. They saw a 1-1 draw which kept the Lisbon side on top of the table.

On Benfica’s side, goalkeeper Ederson had a good performance, and Pizzi was responsible for controlling the midfield, as he’s been doing for a while now. But their main man was the Brazilian striker Jonas, who opened the score and still made many efforts to get a winner.

But Jonas just couldn’t get past Iker Casillas. The former Real Madrid star was picked as the Man of the Match. The only one of the Dragons’ attacking players who excelled in Lisbon was Yacine Brahimi, who coincidentally, was linked to West Brom last year.

Brahimi lives a career of ups and downs at Porto, but in the past few months seems to be convincing the club he should be important for them.

Constantly linked to Premier League moves, Brahimi has a €60m release clause. His unstable form makes his price very difficult to estimate, although it’s safe to say that at the moment, Porto would only sell for a very good fee.

West Brom interest in the player would be understandable, and it would an interesting, if risky, signing for Tony Pulis to make.
