West Brom seem pretty determined to recruit from Portugal. Over the past few days the club have been linked with a renewed move for Sporting’s William Carvalho, which looks doomed unless West Brom stump up a big (€30m+) upfront payment rather than trying to structure a deal.

But it wasn’t Carvalho the club were chasing up on Saturday. Sporting play Feirense on Sunday evening, and it’s a good bet West Brom will have someone at the match.

On Saturday, there were other players on the agenda. A Bola say West Brom had a ‘spy’ at the match between Vitoria Guimaraes and Benfica, which the latter won 0-2. Benfica have an array of talent but, just like Sporting, they like to squeeze every penny out of a deal, using whatever tactics necessary.

If West Brom are looking for a player simlar to Carvalho then Benfica’s Ljubomir Fejsa could be on the agenda and wouldn’t be one of the club’s highest priced players.

Benfica are having another good season and it would be difficult for West Brom to tempt any of their players away in January.

Not content with the one match, West Brom were also on the official list of clubs attending Porto’s away match against Pacos de Ferreira, which ended 0-0. Midfielders Ruben Neves and Hector Herrera could be on the agenda, with the former linked to several big Premier League clubs.
