On January 11th, Radu Drăgușin completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur and signed a deal until 2030. The defender has been restricted to only eight minutes of action from three games and Ange Postecoglou had left him on the bench in the last two matches.

Three days ago, Drăgușin’s agent Florin Manea stated he’s calm over his client’s situation at Spurs, and backed him to start enjoying more minutes in the coming months.

Speaking to Romania’s Sport.ro, former Dinamo București defender Lucian Goian insists Tottenham have faith in the 22-year-old.

He believes the Romania international needs a little luck to showcase his qualities at the north London club.

“I can see he’s in demand in the first 11 by the fans. I hope he plays and confirms himself. He also needs a bit of luck, not to make a mistake or, if he does, at least to win. Get it wrong once and I don’t think he’ll take you out,” he said.

“Romero has made mistakes before. Drăgușin also needs a bit of luck. Let him come in, play two or three games, win the team, and no one takes him out. If he scores another goal, everything will go easier.

“I don’t think they paid €25m for him to make the bench. I’d like him to come in and play and stay in England. It’s getting harder and harder to get a footballer at Tottenham’s level.”

The centre-back wasn’t given regular opportunities at Juventus and they sent him out on loan for two seasons, before selling him to Genoa in 2023. Drăgușin’s fine displays for the latter helped him get a move to Tottenham, where he’s yet to showcase his qualities.

Goian, who has been critical of the Old Lady for not believing in Drăgușin, has heaped praise on his compatriot’s qualities and football intelligence.

“I don’t think he has any weaknesses. He’s a strong, intelligent, professional footballer. Even if he doesn’t have very good speed, he can correct that from his positioning,” Goian explained.

“He’s not Varane, who has super-speed, but he makes up for it with his intelligence. From what I’ve heard from football people who know him, he trains very well, he’s careful what he does off the pitch.”

Tottenham’s next clash is against Crystal Palace on March 2nd.
