Ianis Hagi’s last appearance for Rangers FC came in January, in their 4-0 win over Stirling Albion in the 2021/22 season’s Scottish FA Cup tie.
The Romania international picked up a knee injury in the cup tie and underwent a surgery later that month.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who took over at Ibrox last November, has not been able to rely upon the 24-year-old at Rangers since, but the Dutch manager will be hoping to have the former Genk man at his disposal soon in the second half of this season.
Hagi initially joined Rangers on a loan deal from the Jupiler Pro League side in the winter 2020 market and his stay there was made permanent later that year.
As the forward continues working on regaining full fitness, he has received some advice for his future from his compatriot, Ilie Dumitrescu.
“He can play in any championship. If he plays in Scotland, he can do it without any problem in the Premier League,” Dumitrescu told ProSport.
Hagi’s contract with Van Bronckhorst’s side runs down in 2024. Due to his current injury situation, he is unlikely to attract any interest from England, at least until next summer.
Meanwhile, Dumitrescu has backed the Rangers player to continue to shine after returning to action from injury.
“I want Ianis Hagi to come back, he helps the national team a lot, he is an indisputable leader. Ianis and I talk a lot, he is very strong mentally, he will be even stronger. He works very hard,” Dumitrescu added.
