An hour or so ago we published a story whining that the Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United mini saga was becoming a little annoying, and therefore Dortmund sending an official to England to complete the deal was a relief.
It would all be over, maybe even today. There’s no reason why a deal can’t be agreed, and we can all move on to the next one. Well done everyone involved.
Kicker take the same theme, and have this morning published an article saying it’s ‘increasingly likely’ Mkhitaryan will be leaving Borussia Dortmund and signing for Manchester United.
However, Dortmund football chief Hans-Joachim Watzke is quoted as saying: “We will assess the situation this week.
“Basically, it is desired that the personnel, as far as possible, will be settled by the start of training.”
That start is on July 4th, Dortmund’s first pre-season game set to be against Manchester United, with fate dealing an interesting twist.
Watzke didn’t make the deal sound quite as done as has been claimed, but then he’s a club official and could very well be playing things down whilst knowing that paperwork is being signed right now.
Either that or the deal isn’t that close and Watzke and Dortmund are still assessing things. Money may be an issue too, with Kicker reiterating that Dortmund will not sell for less than €40m, which, thanks to the UK currently imploding, is a little more in £ than it was a week ago… now standing at £33m.
