On Friday we covered claims from Italy that Arsenal were sending someone to Saturday’s match between Salernitana and Ascoli, with the plan to keep an eye on Sofian Kiyine.
Kiyine is a 22 year old from Belgium, who signed for Lazio in the summer from Chievo. The Rome club immediately loaned him out to Salernitana and he’s made 15 appearances so far, scoring five goals in the process.
He usually plays on the left, anywhere from left back to left wing, and, judging from his matches on Wyscout, he’s a very versatile player.
This was his big chance, he could impress the Gunners and potentially set the wheels in motion for a dream transfer.
In their post-match report, Salerno newspaper La Citta back up the claims of an Arsenal official being present, however, the youngster fluffed his lines.
The match finished 1-1, and no Salternitana player was rated worse than Kiyine.
La Citta gave him 5/10, and said: ‘A couple of incomprehensible errors for one of his technical level. Wrong choices before head and then foot. For the midfielder it’s another exam failed, the presence of an Arsenal observer does not galvanise him.’
That’s a little sad, and it may be his chance has gone.
