Over the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed a few articles regarding Manchester City’s interest in Ismaël Bennacer.
The young midfielder is shining at Milan this season in his first season with the club, which has caught the eye of Pep Guardiola, who is a big fan of the player.
Various stories have appeared claiming the Manchester City manager had reached out to both Bennacer’s entourage and the player himself, with talk of a €50m release clause also being in his contract.
Corriere dello Sport explained said clause wasn’t available this year and was only applicable from next summer onwards, and now the midfielder has quickly spoken to Le Buteur in Algeria, who asked him about the situation.
He said: “I’m not aware of anything. My mission is limited to giving my all on the pitch. I’m at Milan’s service. My focus is on my club where I feel really good. After that, the interest of big clubs is an honour.”
You would think that Bennacer would be aware if Guardiola had personally called him, just like RMC Sport claim he has, but, then again, he could just be playing innocent and not wanting to fuel speculation.
Either way, if the midfielder does know something we don’t, then he’s keeping his cards close to his chest.
Le Buteur previously stated something similar, claiming ‘official sources’ had told them Bennacer ‘wasn’t aware’ of any interest in him.
Could it be that said official source is the player himself?
